ARISE African Fashion Week 2009

L'or d'Afrique by Auditions

L'or d'Afrique showed a lot of neutral colours, especially coffee (I would say earthy, but there is just a lot more richness about these beautiful creations to call it earthy).

In addtition to the rich colours, there was also a lot of statement jewelry - mostly in gold.

Leather corset belts teamed with feminine pieces made me very excited about what we might see in shops in S.A.
Note how I lay emphasis on the word "might"...

Another global trend I noticed in the L'or d'Afrique Audtions Collection, was the abundant use of nude. This makes me very happy since a lot of S.A. designers feel the overwhelming need to use Shwe-Shwe in their designs, and I don't think it's necessary to use "out of Africa basics" in order to be original.

Abigail Keats

Abigail Keats also showed a lot of neautral colours. We saw ruffles and mini's are also something that haven't left our shores.

Heni

Musculine lines, feminine prints, neutrals, high hemlines and bows. I'm happy.

Oh, and Heni Este-hijzen just had to throw in this gorgeous ruffle piece - who would have thought that our very own designers had so much range?!

David Tlale

The genius David Tlale really needs a permanent spot in Paris Fashion week - the man has talent!!

He has also incorporated the nude/rich coffee flavour into his collection. A bit of boho chic, and a touch of fifties vintage - how could I not be entirely giddy.

And the best for last - Mr Tlale is responsible for my favourite piece of this year's AFW.

I am tottaly in love with this satiny flowy jumpsuit - strange since I usually hate jumpsuits.

I a truly happy that South-African fashion is alive and kicking - you guys make us proud!!

CMT Music Awards

Laura Bell Bundy looked absolutely lovely... from the knee down! In my mind long sleeves will never go with strappy shoes. This whole look is just too much on top and not enough on the bottom.

Nice shoes though...

Sarah Buxton looked so very cute in this black dress with sheer skirt and light underlay. The peep toe mary janes work well here.

Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott looked ravishing in a black dress with black peep toes. I love the way the dress accentuates her curves.

The blue floral Elizabeth & James strapless tulip dress gymnast Shawn Johnson wore was pretty, but what really caught my eye was her lustworthy shoes.

I understand that she has an athletic figure, but I think a more feminine attitude - and posture - would have made a world of difference.

Kellie Pickler Badgley looked amazing in a bronze Mischka Pre-Fall 2009 gown.

My soft spot - fifties style dresses always make me giddy, so I will just admit that I adore Emily West in this black and red dress. I do however hate the shoes.

Julianne Hough wore a coral Jenny Packham Spring 2009 cocktail dress with nude peep toe shoes.

I love the geometric/sillver leaf effect on Shea Fisher's dress - still trying to find the designer, because it is a gorgeous dress.

Lee Ann Womack wore a black Miu Miu Strapless tiered dress, and she cinched in the waist with a maroon belt.

Megan Mullins. I don't want to be mean, so I'll keep it short and sweet. Pretty dress. Hate the colour, the hair and the over accesorising.

Taylor Swift wore a pretty Collette Dinnigan Resort 2009 dress paires with metallic Prada jeweled platform heels.

I love the slight 20's feel - and her hair.

Council Of Fashion Designer of America (CFDA) Awards

Lauren Santo Domingo looked stylish in Michael Kors - I wish she chose a silver clutch to match the rest of her accessories.

Coco Rocha is wearing Michael Kors. I like.

Tallulah Belle Willis slouched in Calvin Klein Collection. Sad, very sad.

I have a VERY soft spot for anything remotely resembeling Marilyn Monroe, so it should come as no surprise that I absolutely love this Dolce & Gabbana dress with a MM print on Molly Sims. I kinda like Molly in the 50's feel. She was accompanied by Brian Atwood.

Alexis Bryan looked pretty in Prabal Gurung.

Claire Danes wearing a black Narciso Rodriguez gown, with the designer by her side. Accessorized with a Tod's clutch.

The very cool Vera Wang... *sigh*... in her own design. Okay, I love her! Her outfit may not be perfect, but I love her style!

Ashley Olsen, very true to her style, looks gorgeous in this scarlet dress. I like the embellishments on the shoulders.

Ooohh, I like Kirsten Dunst in this Rodarte dress with Nicholas Kirkwood heels. No, I love!!

Doutzen Kroes lookes like a princess in this Zac Posen gown and black Laboutin pumps.

Agenyss Deyn mutilates a perfectly good dress. Urgh..!!!

Kerry Washington looks absolutely beautiful in this gorgeous Doo.Ri gown. I love how it seems to shimmer.

Pretty pink Michael Kors dress, lovely nude peep toe pumps, set against a richly tanned skin - awesome. Now we just wait until Blake Lively does something with her hair.

Do you think the smile on Anna Wintour's face has something to do with Justin Timberlake? I like to see her in Carolina Herrera instead of Prada, but don't you just wish she would try something different?

Lake Bell is wearing Louis Vuitton, and although I like the dress there is just something not cool going on here. I can't decide if it's the shoes, her not even atempting a smile or if it's her posture.

Daphne Guinness, very sassy in Proenza Schouler.

Welcome to my Mind...

Let me introduce myself: I am a student - in all things fashion. With this blog I hope to learn about the world of beautiful creations, the artistic tale of style and the influence that the celebrity has on the fashion culture in our current lifestyle.

In short, I want to observe the fashion world, and have as much fun as possible creating my own voice and opinion within this well established industry...
